Wedding cakes with fresh flowers are easy to do, but you must take care to prepare your flowers correctly so they don't contaminate the cake.
This lovely pink wedding cake is adorned with Cymbidium orchids. Tropical orchids hold up extremely well and are available in other colors.
For a similar look, you'll need the following products, supplies and fresh flowers:
Give the orchids a soak in a tepid bath before designing. Lay out on paper towels and allow to dry. Be sure to wash your hands before handling the blooms. You can design the topper on a clean, disposable dessert plate. They come in clear and work nicely as a support for a cake topper. Otherwise you can wire and tape your orchids and insert directly in the cake if preferred. I like this last method, because it gives me total control over where the orchids are placed.
If you cut circles of wax paper, you need to cut a small "x" in the center of each. These can be slid on the toothpick stem of the orchids and daisies and be a shield between the cake and the flowers.
