Another technique for increasing the worth and look of a simple design is to add special touches like wrapped candy canes or other small candies.

You must tape and wire the canes to give them a stem.  You can either use a Cowee stick (which is made from very porous wood that swells up and locks in tight to wet foam) or

use a sized Cowee pick, that is shorter and usually has a prewrapped wire on the end to use in attaching something to be inserted into an arrangement.

Alway used wrapped or sealed candy.  Otherwise the water in the arrangement could very well turn it into a sticky mess.

I attached this with some clear cellophane tape - simply because it was handy!

I always want to camouflage my mechanics, which simply means I don't want the stake or tape to be seen

I clustered a few evergreens around the bottom of the candy cane and secured into place with green florist tape.

I added a few more sprigs of different kinds of greens and then taped down the stem a bit.

I then snipped off the stem to the right length for insertion into the Santa mug.

Insert the candy cane pick deep enough to conceal the wooden stick, but high enough to be seen peeking out between the flowers and greenery.
