I love using boxwood in both my everyday and my Christmas centerpieces. This dainty greens lends itself especially to the smaller containers like novelty mugs and ceramics.
Insert the first stem of boxwood straight up and down in the center of the florist foam.
Think of your greenery as the framework of your design. It will usually dictate the final height and width of your completed design.
Cut the rest of your boxwood into smaller pieces to keep a more delicate and balanced look.
Small snips of laterals like these can easily be inserted into the sides of the container.
I like to use the natural curve of both greenery and flowers to the best advantage.
You can see I'm beginning to define the shape of my centerpiece. Keep in mind that novelty containers are meant to be seen as part of the design. Don't get so carried away with both greenery and flowers that you cover up the container!
