This evergreen is from a yew bush and doesn't really have much of an scent.
I want to separate off smaller laterals, otherwise the size of my miniature tree could be very large in proportion to the ceramic container base.
I cut off separate laterals of single stems and clean the needle like leaves off the bottom, leaving a bare stem to insert cleanly into the foam.
Insert the top piece straight up and down. Don't worry too much about form at this point, you'll trim your final piece to shape a little later.
Just begin filling in and work from the top down.
The proper greening simulates a natural tree growth. Insert your greenery stems downward at a sharp angle, imitating the branches of a real tree.
Do not stick your greenery in straight from the sides or you'll end up with a very round, bushy design.
So I work from the top, driving my greenery stems in at an angle that points upward.
The greens themselves will begin to flare out at in a natural curve, beginning to shape your tree design.
