What is a holiday centerpiece without pine cones? Prewired cones are available and make it quick and easy for florists to insert into Christmas centerpieces.
If your cones aren't pre-wired, you can create your own stems by wrapping a sturdy piece of wire (about 21 gauge) around the bottom bracts and twisting tightly, then twisting the wire down the entire stem.
Give yourself plenty of stem length, so that you can match the longer flower stems on the bottom and ends of the flower design.
If your wire stems aren't long enough, simply use a discarded flower stem, laying it next to the pine cone stem.
Wrap floral tape down it tightly, giving you an instantly longer stem!
Don't forget to cluster a few up in the top near the globe.
It's the extra touches like this that really begin to put the price up higher from the flower shops. Going from "good" to "exquisite" sometimes is just a few more flower stems and the addition of extra pine cones and christmas balls. Very cheap for the florist, but the more filler that is included can really inflate the price of the more luxurious design.
