I always frame in a guide of my final centerpiece size by inserting the greenery around the bottom perimeter.  This is a traditional table centerpiece, so the ends are longer pieces of greenery than the sides.

This way the finished design will fit on a longer kitchen or coffee table.

I insert long pieces (but not as long as the ends) on each corner.

The center greenery is shorter.  All of the lower perimeter greenery is inserted angled upward.

The tips should angle downward so that the ends lightly brush the table top.

Not all greenery is perfect.  Remember - both flowers and greens are living, growing products.

Professional designers simply remove the the damaged portion and it will blend easily into the final design.
