I'm using both standard and miniature carnations in this design. The larger (standard) flower heads are going to be clustered closer to the focal flowers. These blooms are considered to be the secondary flowers of the design.
I'm drawing the eye upward, so this bloom is placed above and facing slightly to the right, above the hydrangea blossoms.
The bright red provides a nice contrast to the cool minty green of the hydrangea.
I'm going to tuck another standard carnation in between the two hydrangeas, massing these flowers in a tight cluster for more impact.
I'm now going to start using the smaller, miniature spray carnations as the longer lines that work upward and out on this design.
