Once I am finished with my basic flower placement, I'm going to cover up the mechanics that was involved in keeping the candy canes in place.
I'm going to hide the clear tape by wrapping a soft, sheer red tulle around the center of the candies.
I doubled the tulle over, folded it and wrapped it around the candy canes. You can fasten it in place with glue or florist clay. I often slip a small stapler up under the tulle ends and staple it firmly into place.
Now you can add another band of narrow white and fashion a bow from the white ribbon to tie over the red tulle.
I happened upon this lovely elastic hair bows in a dollar store and immediately knew that I wanted to work them into a flower design at one point! These bands actually came three on a card for $1.00 - so I considered it a great buy that added a lovely snazzy look to my candy cane centerpiece!
I simply slipped the elastic bow up from the bottom and over the red tulle already fastened into place.
Here's a top view of the design. You can see how festive even a few simple carnations and daisies can make this unique design look.
