Now the design looks very lovely just the way it is - but as a floral designer I always like to add "special touches" that give the designs that unique look.

Florists refer to this as "upgrading" and you'd be shocked to find out how a few pine cones or a couple extra candy canes can up the price considerable on the same basic design.  Another technique is to add in a few roses or stems of a more exotic flower - again - upping the price considerable from the "good" to "better" to "best"!

I'm going to use a wooden Cowee stake to tape on two individual canes and use them as decorative picks at the top of the flower design.  This gives additional height and looks more lush and finished.

Cowee picks are made of a very porous wood that soaks up water from the foam and then swells the wood, locking the pick tightly into place in the design.

I simply use the same clear, transparent tape as before and tape a candy cane to the top of a wooden stake.

I then conceal the tape with a few sprigs of ever green yew or fir.

Tape with florist tape in dark or medium green and tape down the wooden stake for a finished look.

A few sprigs of boxwood is taped into place.

Use wire cutters to cut the wooden stake to the right length.

Insert your candy pick deep into the center and a little off to the left of the design as shown below.

Now quickly create a second candy cane stake and insert it, keeping it just a little higher than the first one and facing the opposite direction.
